Curiosity = Possibility

Childhood is all about unabashed curiosity. I used to spend an inordinate amount of time playing with my Barbie dolls (don’t judge!) under the dining table or in the living room where no one ever went - acting out scenarios, dressing them up, and creating a dialog between them. And then there was my Easy Bake oven where I mastered the birthday cake. Summers were devoted to pool time where I spent hours playing or at least until my lips turned blue. This play was all fueled by curiosity.

And then, somewhere along the line, I tamped down my curiosity. I’m not sure when it happened. It’s not uncommon. It happens as we head toward adulthood. Life gets in the way. We get busy with work, obligations, and our social lives. We think we are being judged and our curiosity gets tamped down even more. Possibility goes by the wayside as our fears take hold. We begin to think we are not capable of achieving that thing. We may question our self-worth and believe that we don’t deserve something.

I started to miss my curiosity so I began to explore why it had diminished as much as it did. It took a lot of self-exploration and I realized I was hiding behind my fears and limiting beliefs. I was living in my own little safety bubble. I was playing it small.

I was so grateful when my curiosity slowly reappeared. I hadn’t fully realized the impact it had on my life. And you know what reappeared with it - possibility. I stopped thinking in terms of “shoulds”. I began to imagine what could be. I am now open to what comes along instead of being attached to a certain outcome.

Possibility is an open door for you to step through. Does it take a leap of faith? Yes. Do you need to watch for cues from the universe? Yes. Do you need to tap into and trust your intuition? Yes.

Take a listen to this Ted Talk on curiosity and possibility. Yara Shahidi eloquently talks about leading with curiosity and how curiosity and possibility are linked. “Chasing curiosity means that my purpose is constantly unfolding in front of me. All I have to do is pay attention.” I have watched it at least 10 times and hear something new each time. It makes me want to sit down with Yara and have a big conversation about possibility or really anything she wants to discuss.

Yara implores us to recommit to curiosity. You have nothing to lose and your curiosity will lead you to possibility. It’s inevitable.
